SPOTLIGHT ON PIPPIN

"JOIN US, LEAVE YOUR FIELD TO FLOWER
JOIN US, LEAVE YOUR CHEESE TO SOUR
JOIN US, COME AND WASTE AN HOUR OR TWO,
DOO-DLE-EE-DOO"

And so begins the opening chorus from "Magic To Do," a song from our December musical offering, Pippin. Music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Wicked, Children of Eden) and book by Roger O. Hirson, Pippin, is the fictionalized story of Pippin, the son of Charlemagne, who sets out to find meaning in life and discovers his true self long the way. It was originally produced on Broadway in the early 1970s and gained notoriety and popularity for its contemporary style of music and subject matter, the latter mostly due to the original director's vision and choreography, Mr. Bob Fosse.

At the helm of this production is veteran director Fabio Taliercio (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Importance of Being Earnest), who, with the assistance of newcomer musical director Lilli Wosk, has assembled a fine creative team and cast to lend their magic to this production! As we travel through the "Corner of the Sky" and find the "Simple Joys" in just "No Time at All," each performance will boast the talents of many newcomers, as well as Heights Players veterans.

Heights veteran Tim White (Follies) will question life and meet challenges as the title character, Pippin. Pippin's father, the omnipresent Charlemagne, will be portrayed by veteran Edmund McCarthy (Oliver, George M.). Heights veteran Lisa Walker (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, State Fair) and newcomer Vance Stringer will play mother and son duo, Fastrada and Lewis, respectively. Pippin's comedic grandmother, Berthe, will be portrayed by Heights veteran actress Cathy Lemmon (Anything Goes, Crazy For You). We are happy to present newcomers, Lauren Conen and James Swiotak as Pippin's love interest and her adolescent child, Catherine and Theo. And every evening, for your enterainment pleasure, leading this troupe of players as the magical storytellers, The Leading Players, are Heights veteran actress Brianna Tyson (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Musical Comedy Murders of 1940) and newcomer Christopher Short.

Joining this talented troupe of players are Heights newcomers Chad Africa, Marlene Berner, Henry Clapp, Leo da Silva, Mara Draftfield, David Kurnov, Melanie Meadows, CarlyAnn Oquendo, Amber Petty, Rubi Sartorius, Amanda Silaski and Rachel Thomas. Heights veterans include Andrea Bernardo, Danny Cardona, Katie DellaFera, Ed Healy, Lyndsey Hochler, Jill Lewis-Kelly, Marcello Ritondo and Bill Wood. Being featured as principal dancers are veteran Maria Coppola, and newcomers Deanna Jauer, Anna Kroup, Christie McNeil, Roslyn Seale, Victoria Weinberg and Matthew Wiggins.

The creative and technical team consists of Peter Graham and Colleen Finn as Production Stage Managers, Gina Healy as Costume Designer/Choreographer, Kristen Keim as Choreographer, Carl Tallent as Set Designer, Jan VanderPutten as Props Coordinator, Gary VanderPutten on Technical Set Design, and Ted Thompson as House Manager. Assisting on music is Steve Velardi; on sets are Bill Wood, Gerry Newman and Paul Keim; choreography are Matthew Wiggin and Victoria Weinberg; props is Debbie Keim; costumes is Gina Battoglia; lights and crew is Bobby Roelofs and house management is John Bourne.

Still relevant after a quarter of a century, The Heights Players are proud to invite everyone to their production of Pippin and remind you that we've got "Magic to Do" on December 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 8:00 p.m., and matinees on December 7, 14 and 21 at 2:00 p.m. Reservations may be made by calling 718-237-2752 or by clicking here.
